A new client recently expressed concerns about his fitness level, citing his high heart rate during workouts.

I urged him to reconsider his fitness goals more broadly. Understanding the link between your training and your goals is crucial.

Just because a task remains challenging doesn’t mean you’re not improving. The real question is whether your efforts are intentional and aligned with your long-term goals.

Be clear about your ultimate goal. It’s not about the individual exercises, but about the overall purpose of your training.

As you consider your New Year’s fitness resolutions, keep these ideas in mind:

  2. Remember: “Things don’t get easier, you just get better.”

  3. Compare yourself only to your past performance, not to anyone else.

  4. Keep every part of your training directed toward your end goal. Stay focused and committed.
